Vinnies welcome $500k flood donation from State Government

Brisbane President Trish McMahon (sixth from left) joined Premier Palaszczuk and other support group representatives for the State Government flood donation announcement last Sunday

Vinnies Queensland has graciously welcomed a donation of $500,000 towards its 2022 Flood Appeal from the Palaszczuk Government.

The donation will be used towards helping impacted Queenslanders rebuild their lives and receive support in both the short and long-term, as our Members on the frontlines answer requests for help.

“We’re very grateful to receive this funding from the Premier,” CEO Kevin Mercer said.

“It will allow our Volunteer Members to support impacted Queenslanders with immediate food, clothing, and accommodation assistance, as well as long-term recovery support to re-establish their homes and rebuild lives.”

Mr Mercer said he encouraged anyone experiencing hardships or loss as a result of the floods to reach out to Vinnies Queensland on 1800 846 643 or complete a Help Form online.

“Queensland, we are here for you,” he said.

“We have more than 127 years’ of experience in supporting Queenslanders through natural disasters; we are here to help.”

The State donation for flood support announced last Sunday totalled $2.1 million and was distributed between Vinnies Queensland, Lifeline Queensland, the Salvation Army, Australian Red Cross and GIVIT.

“We know in times of disaster, the Queensland spirit shines brightest,” State Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said.

“Mates helping mates and neighbours helping neighbours, that spirit is also in everyone involved in the incredible clean-up response underway.

“As we move into the recovery phase, our charities step in to provide critical services to help get Queenslanders back on their feet.”
